A few months back, KT and all her friends took the PSAT. Eventually, it was scored and the results were mailed back to us. (Of course, our KT did quite well). Not too long after that, our mailbox started getting crammed with information from various colleges from around the country. Shaun and I merely groaned, but KT got excited…and competitive.
Everyday KT and her friends would compare which colleges were interested. At first there were only small, local or barely heard of colleges. Then came the day that KT came home and wistfully told us that “Patrick* got one from Cal Tech”…
A day or so after that, KT got one from Cal Tech as well. (Take that Patrick!) She also started getting interest from other stellar schools such as Columbia, Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Smith (just try getting one from there Patrick!),Brown, UW** and my personal favorite Saint Olaf. We think the one from Harvard must still be in the mail. (Oh Jaaaaaammmmmes???)
So far, KT has received about fifty letters trying to entice her to return the “send more info packet” form. Now the logical thing to do here would be to go through all the brochures and decide which ones are of the most interest to her. However, KT loves getting mail…so she sent them all back.
Yes, we are perfectly aware that our mail man will soon hate us. Sigh…
*We’ve known and adored Patrick since first grade. In fact Shaun and Patrick’s mom arranged the marriage between them. So far, the kids aren’t cooperating with that plan.
**UW is the only one that really counts here. Shaun has decided to brainwash KT into going here as a way to keep KT close to home, yet going to a good school.

Bit O’ Life
After many frustrating hours of trying, my brilliant child has finally managed to touch her nose with her tongue.
Have I mentioned that she takes after her father?
When I was a junior in high school we had college day. I can’t remember how many colleges sent people but the gym was completely full. A lot of people only went to the table of the college they wanted to go to, but I signed up at EVERY table!
I never took the PSAT though. Hell I don’t even remember that being available.
Awesome picture of KT.
Ooh! I can touch my tongue to my nose too. I don’t think I have a picture of me doing it though.
Sounds exciting for your daughter! I can’t imagine my kids getting college info in the mail. I guess that day will be here sooner than I think it will.
Oh my what a lot of applications. I hope they get this all figured out! LOL
You must be proud as punch!
She has great eyebrows!
That’s a lotta applications!
YAY! Then when you’re up here we can visit. 🙂 Great job KT!
Aleks and Kat should hear from UW any day now! My nightmare: what if one gets in and one doesn’t…?!

We are on the down side of the avalanche–my son is going to Colorado State Fort Collins (he could have gone a lot of other places, but this is what he wanted). His very good friend, Rach, actually is going to Harvard.
I get where your daughter’s coming from–possibilities are exciting!
Congrats Kaitie! I’m sure your Hahvahd letter will come soon.
Hi. Found you from Heidi’s page. My oldest daughter had the opposite view on college applications. There was only one school that she wanted to go to – Texas A&M –> great school, lots of tradition, difficult to get into. If she hadn’t gotten in we would have had to admit her to a ‘funny farm’. She graduates in May!! Daughter no. 2 had the tongue and nose thing down pat! She won’t admit it but she can make it look like she’s licking her nostrils like a cow. She can do the ‘wave’ with her eyebrows too. Makes me wonder how much time she sits in front of the mirror coming up with this stuff.
